Caring for your jewelry

Gold, platinum, moissanite and diamond need very little. Softer stones and plated metals need a little more.

Every day

  1. Put jewelry on after lotion, perfume and hairspray, and take it off before the gym, the pool and cleaning.
  2. Clean stones with warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush, especially underneath, where oil collects.
  3. Store pieces apart so harder stones do not scratch softer metal.

Softer stones

Opal, moonstone and blue sandstone scratch and chip more easily than diamond or moissanite. Take them off for anything rough, and do not use ultrasonic cleaners on them.

Vermeil and silver

Wipe vermeil with a soft dry cloth and keep it away from water where you can. Sterling silver tarnishes in air; a polishing cloth brings it back.
